Alleviation effect of MAK in the X-ray irradiated rats
The effect of MAK on regeneration in the small intestinal crypts and survival rate of mice with X-ray irradiation was examined. After the mice were freely given feed containing MAK at 1.25 %, 2.5 %, 5 %, respectively for one week, two kinds of irradiation experiments were conducted. One is the irradiation to the mice with 2 Gy/min X-ray reaching up to 6 or 7 Gy. Then, the survival of mice was observed. On the group of the irradiation of 6 Gy, the seminiferous tubules were also observed. The other is the irradiation to the mice with 4 Gy/min X-ray reaching up to 8, 10 and 12 Gy. 3 or 5 days after the irradiation, the regeneration number of the small intestinal crypts was estimated by the observation of sliced the small intestines of mice. As the results, the size of seminiferous tubules and the regeneration number of the small intestinal crypts was significantly increased by MAK. The survival period of mice was also significantly extended by MAK. These results suggested that MAK had the alleviation effect of radiation damage.
